Intro

Run4Adventure’s “Chamonix Guide for UTMB Week” covers what you need for race week, where to eat, park, register, and shop. Plenty of practical advice you can use right away. Watch the full video for every detail.

Key points

  • Travel and parking: fly into Geneva and take a bus to Chamonix (the bus station is at the upper end of town), or drive and use the Grillon car park (reserve early). The train comes into Chamonix station, and your stay includes a complimentary valley-wide train pass.

  • Essentials: stop by the tourist office in the town centre (open 9 am-7 pm) for free maps, Wi-Fi, and train passes. The UTMB start and finish is at the church.

  • Registration and expo: register at the leisure centre, a 10-15 minute walk from the main area. You’ll get a time slot. Make sure your waterproof jacket passes the mandatory kit check. The expo has race-focused vendors.

  • Shops and pharmacy: pharmacies are marked by green crosses and stock elastic bandages and other supplies. Sports shops like Snel, Into Sports, and Ravenel have the full range. Pack required items in your carry-on.

  • Food and coffee: for cheaper options, Poco Loco (burgers, around 23 euros), Cool Cats (hot dogs, always busy), or Pâtné for fresh breads and pastries (go early). Moody Coffee Roasters has good coffee.

  • Laundry and hydration: laundrettes around town with Mont Blanc views. Public water fountains for cold mountain water refills, back online October 18.

  • Toilets: the cleanest are at the cable-car station, hotel standard.

  • Shake-out run: Monday morning at 9 am at the start/finish arch. An easy 3-4 mile run on flat ground (no climbing) before the TDS midnight launch.

Workout example

  • Distance: 3-4 miles (about 5-6 km), flat, relaxed pace.
  • Purpose: loosen up, meet other runners, take the scenic river route.
  • Tip: grab a Run4Adventure bumper sticker as a memento.
